H. Gallery specializes in modern and contemporary design with a focus on Brazil and Scandinavia. The gallery strives to preserve and promote especially Brazil's rich design heritage and curates a select group of contemporary artists. Meticulous research, ie getting in contact with the original designers, producers, their heirs, and retrieving and indexing old catalogues and magazines is at the heart of its activities. All works presented excel in great attention to detail, elegant lining and shaping and often have an almost sculptural quality. Most of the works are highly collectible.
Frequently featured artists are Joaquim Tenreiro, Jorge Zalszupin, Lina Bo Bardi, José Zanine Caldas, Oscar Niemeyer, Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, Branco & Preto, Geraldo de Barros, Poul Kjaerholm, Ib Kofod-Larsen, Tapio Wirkkala, Peter Hvidt, Serge Mouille and a select group of contemporary artists.
H. Gallery was established in 2015 by film and advertising director Jelmar Hufen. While filming in many places all over the world, Hufen had a lot of opportunities to scour markets, fairs and design galleries. As a result his personal collection grew quickly. First it filled his house, then his storage location(s) and when even those where not big enough anymore and befriended collectors and art directors started asking him to find works for them, he realised it was time for a new step: H. Gallery.
Although still filming back to back, every work is overseen by Hufen personally. Honestly put, this doesn't make us the quickest of the bunch but since most of our works took ages to get to where they are now, we're sure you don't mind. Because like somebody wiser once said:
Good things come to those who wait...
